Need dome help with transporting snakes

SnakeFreak May 22, 2006 01:34 PM

I'm going to the Hamburg, PA show next weekend, and hopefully I'll be getting some African House Snakes and possibly a Spotted Python. Unfortunetly, I might have to stop somewhere on the way home, and the snakes would have to sit in the parked car for about an hour, and I'm worried that it could get too hot or too cold in the car. The temps around here have been mid 60s to low 70s. Does anybody have any ideas on how to keep the snakes at a safe temp? One idea I have is to put them in a styrofoam ice chest with air holes cut in it and possibly put a heat pack or cold pack in it. Would this work?

Personally, I don't leave snakes in the car for more than a few minutes unless the conditions were absolutely ideal.

Where might you be stopping? My solution to this problem has always been a backpack or a duffel bag... That way you can take them with you most places and no one will notice. Most places, the worst that can happen if someone does is they ask you to leave...

The why is a long story, but I'll be stopping at a large hunting, fishing and camping store near the show, so people will probably get suspicious if I carry a duffel bag around inside the store. Depending on the weather I might be wearing a sweatshirt or jacket, and since the snakes are pretty tiny I could probably find a way to carry them inside my sweatshirt or something.

Leaving in car should not be a big deal PROVIDING!!!!!!!!

1) it's not too hot
2) You park in shade
3) The babies are kept in insulated type container, styrofoam cooler, styrofoam lined shipping box etc.
4) Would be best in trunk, does not heat up as fast.
5) Make it a quick trip!!

We all ship hundreds, easily thousands collectively of shipments overnight through the various carriers, they don't take as good a care as you will and the snakes typically arrive fine.

Call the store in question and explain the situation. Maybe they will allow you to place the animals behind a counter while you shop if the animals are secured in an ice chest or something. Be sure to buy something if they accommodate you.
