millenniummorphs May 22, 2006 09:15 PM

Here is another recent litter from last week. This is from one of our huge females. MOTLEY x NORMAL....

I think there was 42 babies total and 24 were motleys.

We will be having some great litters over the next couple of weeks, like our SUPER MOTLEYS and some HYPO MOTLEYS....we will try to post some more pics......

Thank you

coming way down this year.....Bad news for those who have to sell them, good news for those who want to buy them......gotta love the way a pure market works.

Awesome motleys

Did you not sell your hypos last year for alot less than we discussed on the phone.....

Why was that?

Was it because you were not moving them?

Why was that do you think?

Maybe there were more hypos than the market could bear at those higher prices, or do you think quality had something to do with it......

Before you answer, I know it was not a lack of quality as your hypos are awesome some of the best that have been produced in the last couple of years (F1s anyhow).

Don't compare me to the ball python guy, I am just a small time breeder/hobbyist that tries to make enough money to pay for my hobby and have some fun.

FrankM May 23, 2006 11:21 PM

If I remember right a few years back you were calling for hypo prices to crash and then you produce some hypos and want good money for them. And wasn't it January 05 you were in utter disbelief about Sunglow prices and how there were just too many out there, and so easy to make too. Now it's Motley's that you feel should be "red light specialed" (K-Mart reference). I'm just curious as to why you feel the need to bring this price issue into play all the time. It gives me the Ball Python willies! What up BOB?

Randall_Turner May 23, 2006 03:46 PM

I have to agree with ya on that Bob. So far 100 neos born this year, not even June (and thats just the publically mentioned litters). People sitting on yearlings that they can't move and I know of a friend who can't move pairs at 9k. They shouldn't drop real far (like Spider Balls did) but they definetely can't command the price they had. (Supply and demand is a consumer driven aspect of this or any hobby/business, and consumers seem to be avoiding most high end purchases at the moment).
Sorry to hijack the original post.

Congrats on the sweet litter.

This appears to be the first year that a good number of Motleys will be available for sale. I agree that it is only resonable to expect that the price will decrease but I wouldn't expect it to drop too far despite dire predictions from people who want to promote rapid price drops.

There is still way to much to be done with Motleys before the price dramatically declines. First of all there are very few Super Motleys out there so there would be no reason for people who have litters to sell females too cheap when the supers will command a high price for years to come; it would make more sense to just keep the females. Futhermore combinations of morphs with Motleys is still in it's very early stages with few Motley combination morphs produced to date. Many combinations to make Motley het for X haven't even been done yet. Combinations with super Motleys obviously haven't even been done yet.

Another whole area within Motley breeding that is in it's early stages is attempts to make better looking Motleys. There is a range of Motley boas that are being produced currently as you can see by the babies produced and their Motley parents. Selective breeding with dramatically colored and patterned Motleys and breeders will allow for production of much more dramatic Motleys.

With all of this potential and the likely production of some dramtic motley combination morphs this year this is the time when Motley boas should be more desirable than ever to boa breeders. With all of this potential there is no reason to hastily drop prices. Finally, I don't see the production of a number of animals and a resonable drop in price as a bad thing for me as a breeder contrary to the post above. Having produced babies this year and seeing them grow I know that the more people who have Motleys and produce litters the stronger the overall project will become as they get to work with this amazing morph.

Well Put .....

chris nicholas May 23, 2006 08:22 PM

I could not agree with you more. There are very few motley combinations out there, and probabaly fewer super motleys. A price drop may occur, but as a post above said "2000 by the end of this year" is too hasty. People in this business/hobby put too much emphasis on animal numbers rather then long range potential.

I agree completely that the sky isn't falling, its the normal progress involved within the hobby, a new morph arrives, as its produced in greater numbers over the consecutive years the price will come down. I was posting in agreement to Bob that prices will definetely be lower then they were last year, as last year they were lower then the previous season. I also agree combinations have the potential to definetely help maintain the value within the motley mutation, hopefully as the mot is refined the albino motley, hypo motley etc will begin to really blossom.

Good luck to everyone producing motleys this year, and I hope everyone remembers price is subjective per individual selling as well as buying.

Great snakes awesome odds.... Hopefully your Balls do as well

robertmcphee May 23, 2006 07:55 PM

upset...but the basic law of supply and demand will push prices down a bit....not down to an unreasonable cheap price, but what the market will bear.....or an equilibrium price. What is that price...who knows, only the market determines the price.

Thanks to all who replied. And good luck to all as well.

Congrats on producing such beautiful babies. A few things are in line first, but I can't wait to get a hold of a motley baby. Please post more pics of both of your litters after they shed.
