What prices do you pay for pinkys????????

ljk825 May 19, 2003 07:43 PM

I came home for the summer today and was shock to find out that they are selling pinkys for $1.19/each for a frozen pinky!? Also, there are not very many pet stores that sell live mice either here is the North Chicago area. One store was out of stock but said that pinkys sell for 1.99/each. To me thats rediculous because I was paying only .60/each back at school. Does anyone know where to get cheap live mice here in Chicago, or any good sites on the internet? I dont mind frozen but not for that price. Are these prices normal in any one else's area???? Thanks.

I am in Louisiana and the going price at all the lfs is $1.99ea for pinky, fuzzy, weanling, adult or any size live or frozen mouse. I agree, that is too much.

I consider myself lucky. While most of the pet stores around here charge a buck or more, and the "reptile" pet store only charges 60 cents, I go to the All Ohio Reptile show every month and get a bag of 50 for $13.00 ... It costs me $3 to get into the show, so you could say that they set me back $16. I got 50 crawlers last week there for $16.00. So I got into the show and came away with 100 frozen rodents for just over thirty bucks.
Check out the feeder portion of the classifieds. I know that even with shipping costs you can do WAY better than a buck a mouse. Also, there's got to be some reptile shows in the Chicago area, right? That's where I grew up, by the way...Deerfield. Duffy

i have been bitchin about that for a while now... at u of i they had a pet shop called sailfin that sold their feeders for 65 cents or so, and here in suburbia chicago, it's 1.75 for a lousy pinky, i mean give me a break... i've got 20 babies coming and have no idea how i'm going to afford it here, we'll see i guess!

it works out to about $0.03 per pink.. thats after figuring the price of their food, and bedding into the picture.

not too bad.. better than online

I raise my own rodents and I usually sell my excess and sell enough excess rodents to cover the costs of food and bedding and make a few $$$. I will admit that I don't sell that many rodents during the summer months as I am paranoid that I might not manage the #'s right, but during the winter time when my snakes are brumated, I sell rodents by the thousands.

My local pet stores sell live adults for $1.19-1.99, fuzzies and pinkies are $0.99 each. the frozens are exactly the same but the adults are slightly cheaper. I do however breed my own mice too but i only have a small colony so i have to buy at the stores to supplement. Also i try to buy a large quantity of frozens when i attend reptile shows because the prices there are soooo much cheaper LOL

and they give me a batch of pinkies every month or so. If I get cheap with the sunflower seeds or other treats they get cheap with their pinkies too. If I forget to give them their daily sunflower seeds, they eat their own pups and taunt me for being a stingy mofo. Oh wells, there's mice for ya. But I think it costs roughly about the same as buying from pet store. A bag of food for me costs about 3 bucks, and my mice go through a bag a week, and I get maybe 12 pinkies every 3 weeks, so that's a lil less than a buck a piece, but that's not accounting the cleaning I have to do, the bedding, etc etc. So roughly about the same as petstore bought pinkies (between $1 and $2).
