nymph May 23, 2006 04:06 PM

Ok, I feel really stupid. I know you told me someone other than Premium crickets will do shipments for 6 months. Who was that?? Also, how hard is it to keep silk worms?? Are they good to feed instead of crickets?? or with crickets?? Also what fruits and veggies did you feed Luna?? The breeder advised carrot, sweet pot, greens, banana, strawberry, and peaches. Is this ok???? Thanks!!!!!!!

Calm down, sweetie What is the panic? Getting Nigel to eat? Why do you feel stupid, b/c you forgot something? Wait until you're in your 50's! lol!!!

Actually, premium is the only contract cricket company that does small amounts (as far as I know) and they are in the east so shipping is not the issue that it is ordering from CA. I take that back, I think Flukers does as well, but I have never dealt with them and can personally attest to Premium's service (some reason you don't want to order from him?). It is 6 shipments either every week or every other and the amount is 50, 100 or 150. Another plus is that you can add a small container of wax, super or other worms with each shipment. There are others you can get regular shipments but I think it is only for larger amounts.

Silkworms take some time - making the chow, cleaning the frass - but you can do small amounts. I have found that all my herps tire of them so I only do about 20 at a time now. You can order small amounts and see how you do.

Luna loved strawberries and butternut squash (raw). She ate cherry tomato when she was young but not as she got older. She also liked Kale - sometimes.

If you go to the Nutrition Chart that Beautiful Dragons has (for beardies) you can follow that. It is all color-coded on safety and frequency to feed (again, dragons, but will still be helpful. Also great reference for gutload combos!) I printed it out in color and bring to market with me.

Btw, always get organic or from farmer's market when you can.

Hope this helps!

lele

mmmm.....strawberry!!!!!!!!!!

Ok, I found it, but I think I will just order now a thousand and see how long that lasts me to get an idea of how often I need to order. I think that a thousand is lasting about a month. But, that was from the place where the crickets were like 20% dead. So, I wanted to try something less expensive and better. I ordered a batch of the Phoenix worms to so hopefully that will boost Nigel's calcium. And Navi's. I know you said you used them once right? Have you ever tried the Cricket Complete that they sell?? It sounds like it has a lot of the important ingredients that I have seen many people recommend for a good homemade dry feed mix. So what do you think??

What state do you live in? Did you say that you run a nursery?? I have always wanted to open my own nursery, but I don't know how to go about it. I think it would be wonderful. Either that or I will just finish up my education and go through the Nursing program. Hmmmm, plants or people...... LOL!!

OK, Lele-what was that crack about people in their 50's?
Ghann's Crickets also does 3 shipment contracts, but I believe Premium is more generous with their counts. I forget, what IS a cricket??? LOL 53 yr old Diane

you're older than I am! I am ONLY 51! The crack was the constant forgetting, which seems to multiply daily! I had a DR. appt. recently and he was asking lots of questions to diag a possible seizure disorder. When he asked if I got confused easily I told him I am always confusing my microwave for my refrigerator - I was seriousness and he chuckled! guess I need a second opinion - and find a doc who is older than I

Seriously, 51? I always pictured you as a mid-20's kind of gal. LOL I am having "SENIOR MOMENTS" more and more frequently, but I CAN still find the refrigerator when I need it! Diane

hmmm...not sure how to take that - do I ACT like a 20-something? When people SEE me they say I look young (not THAT young) but interesting to see that I "come across" young.

I can FIND the fridge, what I do is when I am going to put something in or take out of the microwave I almost always open the fridge or freezer door first - scary!!

here's ME! Taken about a year ago...

Very nice package for 51! I've been dyeing my hair since I was 36. LOL I have absolutely NO IDEA what it looks like and NO intention of finding out anytime soon. It appears we have a lot in common-gardening, herps-Do you have any grandchildren? I have 3 girls and 4 boys. Diane

Thanks!

Never married, no kids - it has kept me young! lol!! Came close on the marriage thing a couple times, but would only have benn divorced so glad I never did - not that I would not like to in the future (marriage - not the kid thing!). Love kids and they love me just never had that biological burning to have any. My family portrait is me and all my critters!

What's your garden passion? fruits/veggies/perennials/annuals/all?

I focus on native plants and ecological gardening and try to "enlighten" my clients to use the practices. It is always nice when someone is responsive and/or has that "ah-ha" moment of why that approach works so well!
