Quick egg question...

beardielover13 May 23, 2006 06:51 PM

This is the first time I've had bearide eggs in 3 years but I have bred beardies before. My female (Julie) laid 25 eggs Saturday (in her first clutch) and the eggs would be yellow and flat by now if they were infetile, correct? I just want to make sure my eggs have the potential of being fertile because the 24 that were not flat when dug up are still all very poofy. Thanks.

If your female Julie has not been mated with at all in over a year (or if at all) her eggs will be infertile. Infertile eggs usually yellow and collapse within a few weeks but not all do. Some may stay rigid and develop no mold for months.

Infertile eggs can look good, but will mold shortly after laying. Shortly after that they will collapse.

Just a little clarification, she has been with a male for a little while, but was only with him for about a week.
