Egg question

crestygecko May 23, 2006 07:53 PM

I have 12 leo's (10 females and 2 males) that have recently been breeding. I was skimming through their substrate and I found 2 eggs. But what I noticed that the eggs were not hard like a shell, it was rubbery and soft. I put the eggs in an incubator to see if maybe with the humidity they would plump back up. Well that was 3 days ago and still no plumping up.

Is the egg bad??? There are no signs of mold or anything

Could the egg still be good and not have a hard shell???

I appreciate any suggestions.

easiest way to figure out if they're good or not is to candle them and look for the veins. a dead egg won't have a blood flow or atleast thats my understanding. my leopards just laid 2 days ago and the eggs are leathery, i candled em and all looks well thus far.

Even good eggs aren't as hard as a chicken egg. However, they should feel pretty firm. If they are yellow and feel like a water balloon, then they are most likely bad. You can stick them in the incubator for a week, then candle them. If they have a bit of pink veining, they are good, if they glow yellow still, they're bad. If the added humidity in the incubator didn't plump them back up, they're most likely bad.

real soft usually means infertile.
