In August of 04, I nearly "collected" one in the middle of the dirt road in Ramsey (or Carr) Canyon. (I get the names mixed up. It was the road that goes thru to a campground above the rock band). Anyway, I didn't DOR it and it went on its way. That snake was even less bright than the one pictured, with lots of melanin... nonetheless, it was very cool.
me out folks . anybody . Is there more or 1 more canyon in the Huachucas on the area that we are discussing here ? There seemed to be a really LONG hike to the farthest one but that may of been Ramsey. My remembrance : we had to drive a dirt switchback to get up to the top. There WAS a camp site up there. Of course it was what is known as " primitive " with open no fires ( your gel or propane stoves was allowed ), no elec. no running water, but it DID have a pit toilet enclosed and tent space. There were main trials made by hikers ? back packers ? Then there were animal trails made by wildlife like deer, etc. I thought there were species of wild sheep up there ( big horn or something ). We DID encounter many coatis in pack. Of course they are snake eaters from the word go ! I seem to remember a rim path that took us around one big canyon that I seemed to remember that started out on the east side, then south and then west. There was some way to get below this path because we found some young ladies suntanning in the buff. But we being non-residents didn't know how to get down to a lower level. Even if we did, what would our intentions of being on the sunbathers ? Get your heads out of the gutter ! We WERE herp observing ! LOL !
