I want to inform you that the Ohio ban is likely to be bought back in the next session by the AR group API after a pet bear attack. We should be proactive in fighting this. Inform others if you can.

Thanks for the heads up.
You know the problem here is that if we proactively fight it when no one is pushing it, all the "animal people" are up in arms because we are "asking for legislation". I was all for it from the start (getting something reasonable on the books).
But...the consesus has always been not to do anything if no one is pushing it. What that leads to is a ever-ending chase of these issues and reacting to the morons who let their exotics escape. This is really getting old.
I just found out from a relaiable source that the person who was attacked was a fur farmer and would have been exempt from laws anyway.
Certain organizations who lie in wait for these kind of instances to pounce are nonetheless using it to try to push toward legislation once again.
I'll post updates as I get them.
The bear attack was from an escaped ranch bear that broke into a house in Northern Ohio. The ranch owner followed the bear and then shot it.
However the papers in Northern Ohio are having a field day over the "loose regulations" pertaining to wild animals. In fact, the Cleveland Plain Dealer today had a big article on how many people keep all kinds of wild animals. They then went on to list the number of permit holders in all of Ohio and for what type of animal.

Thankfully they did not list the names of the permit holders but in my small city I presumably showed up as the only "wild animal" permit holder in my town (I have 3 North American Wood Turtles). I can't wait for City Council to track me down at the request of some concerned citizen.
Folks, fasten your seatbelts. This could get real ugly real soon.
