Bogertophis rosaliae in California

Does anyone know when the last one was caught in California and where? I have some data from Bartlett but it is pre 2000. Are they legal to collect?

Yeah, I think that they are protected in that state.
And when there are rumors of ones being found, no one will own up to it... kinda like alterna in New Mexico. Are they there? Yes. Do people find them? Yes. Do you ever see any available. Not a chance.

See you next month!

Happy herpin'...

even though one was found in California it may not be listed as a native species in the state. I've read that it was found on a major highway and some folks think it came from a car coming from Mexico. But regulations are regularly updated in the great state of California so you have to check to be sure.

It is unlikely that they truely range in California. I think only one was ever found. You will need a fishing license to collect anything, but I doubt you will find another. There is a huge gap in range from the site in Cali and the known range of the species.

It's just like the story of the grasshopper and the octopus. All year long the grasshopper stored up acorns for winter, while the octopus mooched off his girlfriend and watched tv. And then the winter came, and the grasshopper died, and the octopus stole all his acorns, and he got a race car. Is any of this sinking in?
