Spring breeding season beast...

sideman7 May 24, 2006 01:30 AM

Sorry, I haven't posted here in a while...

Wow, Dexter has been a handful for the past couple months... He has been uppity before in the Fall, but he has been fairly well behaved for the last few years... This Spring he has become a beast quite unlike I have ever seen him... I feel bad because I can't even let him out, he is just too dangerous. Even though I have a stuffed iguana for him to beat up on (and believe me, he does), he still insists on picking fights with me. The few times I've let him outside in the past month I have to bring a towel to throw on him in case he starts stalking me in his dayglow florescent orange outfit... I have to be careful even when he is in his enclosure because sometimes he starts slamming into the plexiglass trying to bite me... Fortunately, I have discovered that opening the door and stuffing a collard green into his mouth is enough to derail his train of thought most of the time and he will calm down... I thought breeding season was bad enough once a year! I guess he will return to normal in another few weeks...

He was well behaved enough today that I let him out for a bit ( he really needed a bath too). Today is also his 6th birthday, so I figured I should give him the benefit of the doubt (he does love his real sunshine!).

That is one of the best looking iguanas I have ever seen on this board. Beautiful beast you got there.

Ironically, the natural sunshine they so much love, also makes them more hyper and even aggressive, when accustomed to in-door UV. hahahaha

Thanks! Unfortunately, nobody is more aware of that than him... He is one serious alpha male!

I hope my Digit looks like that some day. He just turned 3 years now so he has alot of growing to do. He is
just about 4' now. I don't think he will be an alpha male
as he tried to act big and bad but is actually quite sweet.

Here is an old picture of him
