Getting an ATB to start on pinks

pweaver May 24, 2006 07:50 AM

I bought a pair of '06 ATBs recently. I've been trying to get them started on pinks but haven't had much luck. So far I've tried live, live scented w/skink, f/t, and brainded. I've tried both leaving the items in the container overnight as well as tease feeding. Both will strike at the prey and even bite it when teased, but aren't interested in eating it. Any suggestions?

Try a live "peachfuzzy" mouse...not quite a pink but not as big a s fuzzy either. It seems many Amazon neonates will not take a pink mouse for some reason, they like somthing with a little more "movement"to them. Take a fuzzy and place it in a shallow deli cup just before the lights go out underneat or near the Amazon. By morning the mouse should be gone. Other than that you have to have a live fuzzy on a pair of hemostats (so as not to confuse the snake with your own body heat signature) and try tease feeding...tap the tail of the snake to ellicit a strike and when it does strike keep very still.

You can also try tease feeding with a very hot thawed fuzzy...it should be left in really really hot water for a couple of minutes. Somethimes the superheated rodents will do the trick.

Good luck...

I've taken the website offline for a bit while I work on some new additions. I should have it up soon...!

Good luck

i use to use the size danny mentioned placed in a small brown paper bag-something about the bag seemed to potentially simulate the nest robbing instinct and i could get almost any stubborn feeder to eat or convert to thawed (eventually). just my humble technique -doug

Are you only trying to feed it on the ground? You might try feeding it in a branch.
