How to prevent climbing

boogity May 24, 2006 12:55 PM

Lately, my iguana has been in the habit of climbing my bookshelf whenever he's out and about, typically resulting in his tearing apart my books and making a mess. I've been trying to get him to stop climbing up it, but whenever he's out, it's the first place he wants to go (probably because it is the highest point in my room). I've even tried rearranging and placing the bookshelf on the other side of the room, but he still goes to it. Any suggestions for preventing him from climbing? Is there anything I can maybe rub on the bookshelf that will smell bad to him and make him not climb it, like rubbing alcohol maybe? Thanks in advance for any help!

Some people build some sort of climbing area in their rooms, sometimes with heat lamps, so the iguana goes there, and not on the furniture.

Others use cat-condos.

They are natural born tree climbers! If the book shelf is the tallest (and only) thing in that room, he WILL climb it. That's a promise.

Try giving him other, more appropriate thing to climb if you really don't want him to climb the bookshelves.

Good luck.

He climbs because he feels safe on the top of the bookshelf. But im sure he doesnt like when you scold him or the noise of the books falling down.If you can give him another option im sure he will accept it.
