Paradox Coral Albino

BoaMorph May 24, 2006 02:25 PM

Everything bred really late for us this year, but finally our first litter of 2006 was born today! This is our fourth litter in five years from Big Mama and Big Daddy (very clever names; all I can say is that children were involved...). Mama is a het albino (coral?), and Daddy is a coral albino; both are 25% Suriname; the same pairing that has produced all of our coral albinos to date. Not a bad litter, but it could have been better:

1 paradox albino
7 albinos
10 het. albinos
1 premie doa albino
2 premie doa het. albinos
19 slugs

It's hard not to feel like we only got half a litter, but we're very pleased with the half that we got. We love watching them coral up as they grow! Here are some pics:

The adrenaline really starts flowing when you're looking at a 10+ foot, 45 pound, hyper alert, overprotective Mama, knowing that YOU have to get her out of the cage! What a rush.

These two appear to be twins (non-identical, obviously); you can see the umbilicals still attached to the same yolk sac.

You can see the paradox in the middle of the pile. And an escaping het. on the right - his/her motor was running right from the start!

A couple paradox close-ups. We like the face - clean on one side, dirty on the other.

This is the first paradox albino produced by this pair, and partly for that reason we think it's very unlikely that the paradox will prove genetic. Nevertheless, they are always quite remarkable to see.

Thanks for looking!

..if it's a male, you should name it Harvey (as in, Two Face; from the Batman series).

when I hear Harvey I always think of Jimmy Stewart's 6-foot tall white rabbit. Here again, since children will undoubtedly be involved I'm guessing that for a male, the name "Pigpen" (of Peanuts/Charlie Brown fame) is inevitable.
