johnnyblazekfd May 24, 2006 02:47 PM

not much activity on this board anymore so lets see if I can get an answer. I remember there being a way to differentiate between dwarf and giant, does anybody know it? thanks in advance

http://www.up.ac.za/bullfrog/index.html
Morphologically the two bullfrog species appear very similar with the exception of one feature: the distance between the eye and the tympanum (i.e. ear drum). In the Giant Bullfrog this distance is greater than the diameter of the tympanum, whereas with the African Bullfrog it is smaller.

I remember hearing when I frequented this board back when it was busy that you could also tell by there dorsolateral stripe or something to that effect? Im just wondering because I originally thought I had a giant due to his softball size but he is a drab olive brown and still has a pretty prevalent dorsostripe running down his back which I thought was the characteristics of the dwarf, I'll have to check the links differentiation when i get home tonight. thanks again.... Yes, I think the stripe should fade as they get older. If its the larger one.

Here is another helpful link. Did you found out what it was?

Im assuming it is a dwarf. I cant really tell with the tymp. because its size is about the same as the distance between so I dont know. It is about the size of a softball which is big for the dwarf I believe but it has the drab brown color and an off white to tan stripe running down his back which I always believed to be characteristics of the dwarfs. so no clue. I attained him at this size as a "pixie" only and I assumed he was a juv. giant since he was so large but I haven't had him that long so i dont know if hes going to get any bigger and porve a giant or stay the same and just be a large dwarf...
