So excited. They hand fed for the first

dianedfisher May 24, 2006 06:29 PM

I have waited SO LONG to FINALLY be able to post this. JEFF, both Chyam AND Valentino ate crickets from my hand today. I am SO EXCITED and HAPPY. I know it's no big deal to most of you, very mundane and ordinary, but I've been trying for MONTHS without success. They both shot their tongues and each ate 2 nice, fat, gut-loaded and dusted crickets. I feel like a 10 year old! OK-everybody laugh! Diane

you're cute There is a feeling of finally reaching trust when your cham eats from your hand. Cyrus has not quite done it, he comes close as I move a super to the screen but he stops and waits until it is out of my hand. Luna hand fed almost from day one.

Enjoy!!

I found a way to feed super worms that pretty much always works, even on every female (everyone that I tried it on). If you are using a cage made out of the aluminum insect sreening, or a reptarium(never tried it with the 1/8" screening), hold the worm with tweezers, and face him towards the top of the cage. He will grab on with his little legs, and then move around a little bit, while hanging down. They sometimes fall, but it works pretty good for the most part. I guess it isn't really hand feeding, but it is a good way of feeding them without free roaming them.

Thanks, Adam. I haven't tried superworms (I have thousands of them for the water dragons) because I couldn't figure out how to accomplish it. I'll try that with Chyam. Diane

TEN years old again, hehehehheehe LMAO (Gosh what an awlful thought) I would Hate to go through it all again.
Would just rather FEEL like a kid NOW, hehehehhee (Like you) it's more fun.

Anyway I think it's really neat they ate from your hand. It's pretty COOL when ya first feel that crazy long tongue hit into you. I was surprised the force behind it, LOL

Hey, that is AWSOME!!! its one thing to watch them feed out os a tray or something, its another to feel them take it right out of your hand.

One thing you might want to try with the superworms is putting them on a tuperware tray that has a small lip around the edge. The eperworms usually crawl around the outside without trying to go over the lip. Wehn they do, touching them on the head will make them go back on the tray. Charlie (usually, not latley because he doesnt eat much while shedding) usually doesnt mind the tray and just graps the worm right off of it.

Now that you have them eating out of your hand and you want to try it with superworms, which i hate to touch, try the tray.

And one more.... AWSOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't mind handling the supers at all. Avanyu, my male CWD, ate 20 of them from my hand this A.M. I just grab the nasty suckers by their head so they can't bite me! LOL But..I'll definitely try them with Chyam and your tray idea sounds good, also. They get loose in the water dragon cage and morph into nice, huge, crunchy beetles. If you touch them they kind of have a "smoky" aroma. Avanyu LOVES the beetles. Water dragon BAR-B-Q! Diane

Yeah, I guess I don't want to do 10 again-LOL
I was AMAZED at how much force there was behind the tongue! When they pop an insect with that tongue it doesn't have much of a chance. I had no idea. Now I realize how easily they can damage their tongue if they shot at food placed on an inappropriate surface. But it sure was kewl to see them do it for the first time! Diane
