lele...I'm so sorry you lost the eggs. Its always disappointing when this happens....I've been through it many times. I hope you will have better luck next time.

Oh, sorry things didn't work out. I have 5 molding water dragon eggs that I refuse to throw out-DENIAL! LOL

Diane, have you hatched water dragon eggs before?

dianedfisher May 25, 2006 03:26 PM

No, K. This is her 4th clutch and I've incubated them all, but this female now lives separate from my male, as the other female in my group is a territorial monster, so I feel pretty certain they are not fertile. I plan on giving you a shout if Tripod (the evil Queen) ever lays. She is nearly 3 and has yet to lay. So far, I have never seen any signs of mating from my male, either. Perhaps someone probed him as a youngster and damaged his equipment. Any ideas? DM

Tripod might not be quite old enough yet. Quite a few of my females (raised from babies I hatched myself) didn't produce eggs until they were about three.

Let's hope the male is okay!

I am so grateful to have someone with your experience to contact. Rick Gordon used to patiently answer all of my CWD queries (and there were MANY). At the present time, and after 3 years, I think I have the husbandry down, but the gravid issues still terrify me. Thanks for your help. Diane

Sorry to hear that lele, but not surprised, they looked pretty sunken in when you first posted. You always have to try though, to see if they plump back up.
I have learned with breeding my desert lizards that sometimes you just leave them be, until they are completely shriveled, as you did.
All of us one time or another have felt terribly guilty and horrible for opening an egg that seemed deflated and beat, only to find a live growing little lizard inside.

Just an awful thing, because they die shortly after the egg is opened. I have learned to NOT jump the gun, even when I believe the eggs to be no- good.

They will have more, and it so very EGGSCITING to watch them hatch. I never get tierd of the miracle of it all

I am not too disappointed since I am not looking to breed and the eggs are something that sort of came with the package! I also have no idea what male she was with, whereas now, even if she has retained sperm from her former beau, she and Stan have mated a few times. THEN I will be more disappointed if they don't hatch since I know who the dad is! Shy, little Stan.

She is getting pretty full looking again so I am sure there will be more, soon!
