Finger Food?

drako32186 Jul 31, 2003 11:56 AM

Um...my little geckos seem to think that my fingers are food.... I'm not so sure what to do about this. I know that when you feed a snake from above that it may strike thinking that you're going to feed it, but I feed these guys out of their little bowl. The other day when I reached in to get the bowl (which still had live food in it so I ruled out that I let them go hungry) the little girl bit me! Is there any known way to stop this? It's not like it hurt...but it startled me more than anything. Thanks

My Babies used to stalk my fingers, they never bit me because I made sure they never had the chance. Spaz got me one time, and like you said it din't hurt it just scared the heck out of me. I don't know if there is any way to avoid this. It hasn't happened to me again, yet. Where you moving your fingers around or anything? Movement tends to trigger their feeding response, exspecially in the little ones. Try to an eye out for any predatory behavior while your fingers are in their tank, but they might still launch a surprise attack. I think it was more than likely a case of misidentity. What was in the bowl? Have they eaten out of the bowl before? Just asking, because mine completly ignored the bowl of mealies I had in their tank util they realised there was food in the bowl. The bowl sides might be too high for them to see in. Hope this helps.

I think that it was a case of mistaken identity...but they always look at me as if I'm a meal..lol. I was just worried that it was from like not holding them enough or something like that because I was holding them every day or every other day and then I had a busier scedule for a couple weeks and I reached in and got bit yesterday..hehe I guess I'll gust keep an eye one Bass...lol (like in bass guitar...) Thanks.
