How much do you think the prices.....

tsusnakeguy May 25, 2006 12:44 AM

of boas will be by the time Daytona comes around. I was wondering what everyone thought the prices would be of boa morphs by the time Daytona gets here. I have seen albino prices start to drop and after everyone has all their litters I am wondering if they will drop more. Also other morphs like snows, ghost, anerys, hypos, jungles and anything else yall can think off. Just wodnering what everyones estimates are.

I hope they dont go down much and they really shouldnt. I dont think Boas will ever really go down as much as ball pythons have, it takes alot longer to get boas mature enough to breed to there value should last longer.

Prices are based on "supply and demand". If there's an over abundance of a certain type of morph the price will drop. This year there seems to be an amazing amount of boas being born. Many are from new breeders. They have the same breeding stock that the big name breeder have, but they can't get the same prices the big name breeders can. You'll always have the big name breeders that will be higher priced though. The thing is that now you have many many "new breeders" out there. Although they'd like to get the amount of money for their snakes that the big name breeders do, they normally can't. They sell their boas at a reasonable or rock bottom prices. This is good for the buyer, but not the seller. I believe this "rock bottom" pricing for some of the higher end morphs might even upset a few breeders that were hoping to get a higher price for their animals. After all, there's only a limited number of people that can afford some of the highest dollar snakes. Even these people would rather "buy for less" and save a couple thousand.
So you're going to see a "lot" of quality boas for lower prices this year. These quality boas will "possibly" be out of the bloodlines from the big name breeders. If I were you I'd take advantage of these lower prices and get the boas you really want. Next year the amount of boas being born could be considerably less. This could mean that prices will go back up again. Yeah, it's all about supply and demand.

I am one of those new breeders, And one that sold alot of my albinos cheap, did I want to no but alot of it is I know where people are comeing from when they really want a high end morph and cant afford. I was one of them five years ago when I started builing up my collection. I would say the Albinos will be up and down in prices, you still need one for many projects. Sunglow, snow, ect. Yeah and buying from new breeders are just as good.

I agree, we bought a large het girl this last season from an "unknown breeder" for what I thought was a steal, but if you don't have the rep its hard to command top price. Didn't matter that kahl produced it 10 years ago, it mattered who owned it the time it was sold.

Unknown breeders can be less reliable, and therefore more of a gamble. They should be less expensive at least for a couple of years until the community has a chance to deal with them.

I bought a pair of anerys from such a seller and they never showed up! After 5 months of listening to excuses, having my emails ignored, and giving him every chance to do by right by me, I asked for my money back. He said yes but *big surprize* the money never showed up either. After a couple more months, giving him every opportunity to pay me (I even offered him payments to refund me) I reported him to the proper authorities (thanks kingsnake for telling me how).

It's more of a gamble to buy from the unknown. I have had good experiences with the other breeders I have dealt with though.

I'm sorry you didn't get what you paid for, but....

I still don't think that a new breeder should be "expected" to get less for their animals than the well known breeders. Especially if they have exceptionally nice animals to offer. Would you expect a new breeder that has a litter of very high end animals to sell them for a couple of thousand less? If that started happening then the ones that are trying to get more for their animals would be "very upset". These new breeders would get bashed for "price cutting" and would be accused of "bringing down the market price". Of course, everyone knows the market price is destined to come down a bit anyway.

I do think that anyone buying from a new breeder should always use caution. If possible they should try to purchase from them in person.

BTW if a person intends to rip you off...... They'll do it regardless of what their prices are. So, obviously selling animals cheaper isn't the answer.

I'm just hoping no hurricanes will be in town that week. Hurricane season is just around the corner.

I think the prices of albinos will pretty much stay the same. I think you will see some go for a little less but I think that is because people just want to sell them relitively fast. Just like with hypos really nice ones will command a higher price, the ones that don't have outstanding color will sell for a little less just because people want to get the best stock they can. I really don't think there is a great deal more small time breeders this year compared to last and I also don't think there is an extrodinary (sp) ammount of boas being produced. Everything seems pretty normal to me. At Dayona I think you will be able to find good deals but this is no different from last year.

PastelDream May 25, 2006 10:32 PM

I think there are many new breeders this year. Just look at the number of Albinos, Hypos and Motleys being born this year. Look at the prices those animals are being offered at. I don't know how many or if any new breeders will be at Daytona. I just know theres a "lot" of babies this year. Just look at how many Pete Kahl has produced, so far, this year. I think this is an exceptional year for boa production. The prices you see in kingsnake.com refelects how many boas are out there. I think it could also be reflected in the prices at Daytona. It could be that the supply out weighs the demand this year. I've seen some pretty amazing animals going "cheap".
