I have a few questions on a tegu that I adopted from a friend. First off I don't own any lizards (many snakes but no lizards) and so I really dont know much about them. My friend bought this lizard as a "cool thing for his dorm room" and now is giving it up. Being a responsible herper myself I figured I would take it instead of letting it be ignored for longer. All I know about it is that its a black and white tegu. My first question is how do you tell a columbian from an argentine? I have been feeding it crickets non stop since it was greatly underfed and started feeding it pinkies last week (the guy I got it from said it wouldnt eat them and I just laughed cause he clearly didnt try it). My main question on this lizard is how to calm it down. It tail whips and bites pretty bad right now and I was wondering if theres any good methods for making it more docile. I have heard before that these guys make awesome pets but after two weeks this thing still wont settle down. I just built a nice 4x3x3 enclosure for him but its going to be sad if he stays this mean. He is about 12" including tail right now so he must be pretty young. I'm hoping its a juvenile thing to be nippy (much like my burms were as juveniles). Any info/tips out there? Advice is greatly appreciated.
