He is beautiful!! Where did you get him? I am looking for a young female and whoever you got yours from might have more. Is he tame? What kind of substrate do you use? Do you think you can post more pics of the cage?

I got my three desert iguanas and chuckwallas from Desert Reptiles. Mine are doing fanatastic and they were a very good price. You can get mostly any size you want. They are wild caught though. I hope this post wasnt against the rules.

Your baby DIs are so cute. Mine is wild caught and very skittish. He hates me right now. I have been looking for a female for him to show him how he is supposed to act, lol, do you have a link for Desert Reptiles? When you got them were they tame? In the pic they are just sitting on your hand, my little guy won't sit on my hand even if I am holding him pretty good. Do you have any tips for taming? Thanks!!

I just got 1.1 Desert Iguana's from newtspets.com I found him in the King Snake Classifieds, the price was very good and shipping was only $10.00 Coast to Coast and the lizards are very tame.

Where can I look at these Desert Reptiles guys? I want a young female DI, anyone got any helpful hints on where to find one that is tame? Eve, would this help me tame my little guy? Do you have any more hints for this? He is just as pissed at the world as he was when I caught him. Help if you can! Thanks all.

PATIENT, hhehehehe ya just caught the little one, he/she is still confused, frieghtened, and trying to acclimate to something he/she has never been accustomed to.

The only tips I can give is to let the baby become familiar with seeing you, don't try grabbing him right away. Like I said earlier in email, try and hand feed some nice yellow dandelions to him every chance you get. Take it slow !

Or try and find cb's from someone who is breeding. I will link you to Larrys (Desert Reptile site) but remember Larrys animals are very NICE/healthy, but also wc's, just making sure you know that.

How are you sure of the sex of this young iggy? talk later

Hi Eve, what are you feeding your D.I., he looks very helthy and happy?

Thanks
Cecil

Hershey eats a sald a day of different things, mostly collared greens, kale, shredded carrot, shredded squashes, shredded sweet and white potato, dandeline greens and flowers, rose pedals, some weeds in my yard(No pesticides) many veggies just try things.

Hershey seems to love a chunk of banana, the greens and shredded carrots and dandelion flowers are his favorites.

Thnaks for the nice comment. Hes a good boy, but was wild when given to me 3 years ago. Took some time, but he's as tame as can be now. Free roams with 2 collareds that have special treatment, hehehheee LOL

Do you give him any Crickets, my Desert Iguanas seem to eat the Crickets better then the Lepards do, for my green Iguana he only eats plants and I thought the Desert Iguanas did to, can they eat bugs?

Thanks Cecil

Hey Cecil, I am new to the Di life too, but my Di eats some veggies every day but he absolutely loves mealworms and crickets. I don't know if this is the best thing for him but he loves them so I give him some every day. Eve, is this going to impact him later in life? I read something about how if you feed reptiles insects who shouldn't eat them they can develop grout? What is grout and is that true? Thanks again.

In the Green Iguana world, Protein other than plants will cause liver failure and kill your pet. I'm hoping that these guys know what is best for themseleves, I'm going to try and feed them the vegies in the morning and hold off on the crickets till later, after eating the crickets they'll go up to and nibble on the greens but not realy eat them, put the crickets in the tank and they go crazy chasing then and eating them

Many will eat crickets and superworms, especially when younger. As they get older they eat more salads/greens and veggies. And they should be served atleast every other day.

I feed Hershey everday, but some days he does not eat much. He does not eat any bugs at all. He did when he was younger eat some crickets.

As far as getting GOUT, yes some lizards do get it. Just don't over do it with the bugs. Make sure they get those veggies and fruits and flowers.

You also asked what is GOUT, I have a link here you can look at
