Fresh water salt for alga control

Vette Jul 31, 2003 12:13 PM

I remember read something about getting fresh water salt for alga control. Is there any name brand someone can give me to look for? Is it 100% save for my 5ft spect. I just bought a new light for his cage. This light is brighter then the old one so now i'm growing a fine crop of alga in the encloser.

Thanks
Rick

i have not heard of a salt remedy myself (as yet)so cant answer on it,but i did keep koi in the past and found uv light or ozone were the best at keeping it at bay..there are other chemical remedies out there but i couldn't recomend them for crocs as i have never used them.
straw bales also work although they are messy and you need to use quite alot...hope this is of some help...

I've used the chemicals for fish tanks in my gator's enclosure for two years now, with no ill effects...

It works ok, but in my experience the 'chemical' algae control type products are genrally safe to use on vertebrate animals and less bother.

Be cautious with algae blocks though as crocodilians have a tendency to nibble on them and they may cause harm if ingested.
