Hi..new to this forum, so bear with what seem like a dumb question, please.
I live at the edge of a couple hundred acres of woods & a 3-acre lake, so there's no shortage of snakes, turts, lizards, etc. in and out of the house. My dogs are always finding said critters in the backyard. Sometimes I can intervene, sometimes not.
Well, a couple weeks ago one of the dogs literally yanked a ringneck from a hole in my backyard. I was able to retrieve it before he killed it, but it suffered what appears to be some crushing/"denting" over the back 4-6 inches of it's body. There are no puncture wounds, no bleeding, just the indentations of my bad dog's teeth.
It appears the front half of the snakes body is functioning fine, but the back portion lacks muscle strength and is non-functioning. I realize there may be bone fractures and naturally, the snake is not a candidate for release in it's current condition.
Can anyone advise if it's possible this snake may recuperate or is it anyone's guess and I may have just added another handi-pet to my growing dog-casualty collection?
Here's a pic. From the red arrow back, there's no mobility. You can also see the crushing/denting and swelling.
Thanks kindly for any advice.
