I was wondering who has used Phoenix worms for thier chameleons, and what are the pros and cons compared to other feeder worms. They have a high level of calcium and I was wondering if that can cause any problem for the chameleons.

I ordered some when I first got Cyrus and he seemed to like them. If they turn into flies they can still be eaten (they are NOT house flies, therefore not a pest if one or two get loose.
I would order medium or large. I if they are black they are pupating. There was a recent thread about this...have to try and dig it up.
How is Nigel doing?

Hey,
I have some that I use on occasion. The pro is that they are very healthy to feed, and the cham ussually eats them right away. The con is that they are very small, even the large ones, so unless you have a small cham, you need alot of them to fill up a big one.

Email Me!
Roocat mentioned that the don't appear to digest them well and that whole worms are present in the fecal material of pygmy chams. This same thing was commented upon on the RZ water dragon forum. Never noticed it perosnally, but I don't do fecal dissections-just wipe it all up with paper towels and disinfect. LOL Diane

I too read that somehwere and I ownder if it is in the pupal stage rather than the larval when they are soft. Cyrus ate them both, and, like you, I take a quick "fecal peep" and then get it outta there! lol!

Wow!! I am really pleased with my order from Premium Crickets. I ordered 1000, and it seemed like twice the amount of the thousand I would get from my previous supplier. The Phoenix worms are small. I was surprised because I ordered the large. I was wondering though what fruits and veggies everyone feeds thier veiled chams and how can you interest a cham that does not seem interested in anything that does not move (Nigel)
Thanks!!
I feed my veileds a mixture of pears, apples, melon, berries, kiwi, dandelion greens, kale, collards, ROMAINE lettuce, butternut squash, zucchini, sweet potato, sweet red peppers, carrots, etc....all cut to appropriate sizes.
To start them off, I impale a wedge of apple on a branch. If the chameleon doesn't eat it, then I put some chopped up apple in a peanunt butter jar lid on the floor of the cage. The crickets sit on the apple bits and the chameleon shots at the cricket and gets the taste of the apple (or sometimes even a piece) in its mouth. Usually thats all it takes....but if that doesn't work, I hold a wedge of apple in my fingers and when the chameleon's mouth is open (while its drinking or eating) I stick the end of the wedge of apple in its mouth.
Hope it works for you!
