soft furred rats........once again......

jyohe May 25, 2006 07:57 PM

thought some of you people called them multimammates???.....

thought they had 20-25 babies?.....

they don't and aren't.......

my first litters were 9 and 10......

many many more to come.....hehehe.......

........from a webpage....

/////Members of the Praomys genus are also referred to as Soft-furred Rats or African Soft-furred Rats, and the Mastomys are called Multimammate Rats. The Natal Rat was once put in the Mastomys genus, therefore they still are sometimes called Multimammate Rats. A specific name for Mastomys natalensis (the older name) is Natal Multimammate Rat, to distinguish this species from the other species of Multimammate Rats in the genus Mastomys.
A name for Praomys natalensis ought to be Natal Soft-furred Rat to distinguish it from the other Soft-furred Rats. /////
....
............
guess they are Praomys......

they are cool.........can't wait to see if they work better than gerbils, chinese and russians and Peromyscus......

.........have fun..........

Was this their first litter? I just got my first litter and it was 13. I am assuming they will have larger litters as they become more mature? What do you think?

I have had ours for about 5 months, and have produced many babies. I have never had a litter over 15. I have about 20 females and all have had multiple litters.

They have cost me $$$$$$$$$$$$$$ just trying to find something they cant chew out of! Ive tried almost everything, so now they are in a plastic tub lined with wire on the inside and that should hold them for a couple days until they chew through the steel!!! haha

Ive had 2 litters in the past 3 months. 1 had 9, the other had 13.

and even the babies bite!!

Just clearing something up for a friend...

Pastel male x fm spider = Bubble bee
Spider male x fm pastel = Bubble bee

So are you just as likely to get bubble bees either way?

sorry

......why??????

10 gallon aquariums are chew proof......

glass water bottles with steel nozzles are chew proof.....

they only bite if they are unhappy ...

they require certain things.........

yes I lost some water bottles quickly......went to all glass............they chewed the wires holding the bottles in one night.(aluminum).......I put on cloths hanger for wire......let them try and chew through that quickly......

I had the first 2 pr for 24 days and got 10 and 9 babies .....and have alot more from another breeder setup now that should drop any minute.....

they are rodents.......no worse than Peromyscus and gerbils and hamsters and degus and all the other odd little critters.......

they all require what they need and what they cannot chew out of..

have fun
