Where to get feeder mice

uiucguy88 May 19, 2003 07:55 PM

I moved back home from Champaign, IL and I am now in Chicago. I found it easy to buy pinkies and fuzzies at champaign, but surprisingly I can't find vendors nearby. A few questions.

1) Does anyone know of a good place to buy live mice or baby chicks around Chicago?

2) Is there any good places online to buy live mice or baby chicks for a good price? (probably not since I've been researching quite a bit)

3) Do I really have to rely on frozen mice? (I love watching my snake eat live ones!)

Thanks for any help you can give me.

www.rodentpro.com is an excellent source for frozen mice
i'm my perosnal opinon if your snake will accept a frozen mouse there is absokutley no reason to feed it a live mouse...ever
I may catch hell for this
but if you realyl care about the health of your snake stick to frozen mice live feeders is an outdated practice in the herp industry

There are several nationwide frozen rodent retailers such as the Mouse Factory, Rodentpro, etc.

The main page of Kingsnake.com has links to dozens of feeder suppliers!

I have heard of some places that will ship live rodents, but they are not common. The feeder forum will have more info if you are really interested, however, how many mice or chicks are you expecting to get at a time? You would have to order a lot of animals at a time to make it cost-efficient, and chicks would turn into chickens Plus, you would only be able to get adult mice, pinkies and fuzzies wouldn't live long enough.

If that is your only reason for feeding live food you should consider feeding frozen. IMO, any thrill from feeding live is not worth injury to my snakes. Plus, as you know, it's a lot easier finding cheap sources for frozen rodents.
