What happend to the crickets????

crestygecko May 25, 2006 11:18 PM

question......

My leopards use to like crickets but since I fed them mealworms, they have completely forgotten about the crickets. All they want to eat are mealworms. Is this normal?? Is it o.k for them to only eat mealworms??? Will the eggs be healthy if mealworms become the steady food source. They are growing and shedding at a wonderful rate but I wanted to know if this is normal eating or should I worrry??

Thanks for any opinions!!

All thaty is important is that you properly gutload the feeder insects. This is where the geckos get their nutrition from.

I agree completely with WindyO, as long as the mealies are gutloaded, you're gecko will grow fine. All of my geckos are maintained on mealworms and I have never had a nutrition or egg problem.

Thanks for the advice...

What do you use to gut load mealworms???? They have always come with grounded up grain, what do you feed a mealworm to gutload it for my geckos????

I gutload my mealworms with a both dry and wet diet. I actually just breed my own mealworms, it's a lot cheaper then buying them every week. I have a plastic shoebox filled with about 1/2" of the stuff the mealworms come in and 1/2" of that Fluker's cricket calcium rich gutload.I then have about half a potato and some zucchini or carrot pieces for moisture. I hope this helps.
