I will be adding tegus to me list of pets sometime this summer, I was only planning on getting one argentine red, but it seems that if I got two, I would be able to house them together with an enclosure that was about 50% larger, not 100%. I have emailed bert langerwerf and he has confirmed that tegus can be housed together and that even red and black and whites can be housed together, so I can get a pair that way. So naturally, I would be getting one male and a female as males housed together will more likely fight. I do NOT plan to breed them currently, although not sure in the future, just don't want two males that may fight (If things go badly I DO have room to house separately, but would prefer not to). However, if the conditions are right, they may end up mating anyway, or is this far fetched? I would rather not have the female go through the stress of egg laying, but if it does I'd like the offspring to be survivable. I have a friend who currently has a red female that is gravid from a b&W arg male (see my other post), and I was told just now (outside the forum)that these b&W and red crosses usually die (though he's not exactly and expert). What are your opinions? two reds or one each?

Also, i currently plan to let the tegus brumate. however, the tegus will be arriving in late august to september, which means i will keep them for a few weeks then they would brumate. is it wise to let these babies start to brumate right away? Common sense has it that perhaps babies should be allowed to eat and grow straight out of the egg instead of going to sleep right away. I even heard that this may be a dangerous practice, to let them cool down that young.
