I saw the picture of your enclosure, the cabinet looking thing. I was wondering where you got that? I have to take my leos up to college with me and that would be PERFECT! I would love to get some information about it from you. I would really appreciate any information you might have, thanks. It is a gorgeous setup! Much thanks in advance.

Well first of all...the nice looking bookshelf frame is just a nice looking bookshelf with glass doors from walmart. I just took about 30 dollars to Lowes and made simple changes. As you can see in the picture I just made a simple 3 sided wooden frame and fixed glass to the front with clear silicone. A little wood glue and your done. You could do this with any bookshelf...I just prefer the look of the swinging glass doors; but like I said, they are all stock from walmart furniture dept.

My only other mods were using UTH's and some 8" strip lights to light each level.

PS If you do try this, don't use sand unless you like watching sand slowly drain from the top shelf to the bottom.

If you have any other questions...feel free to ask; I hope I answered your question though.

Don't forget to cover your new wooden frame with clear tape or something slick because crickets can and will climb out.

But don't worry, they can't climb the existing bookshelf walls...thankfully!

Wonderful setup. I thought about doing that but i couldnt' find the shelving units with those types of doors so i went straight to tanks....

I have a question.......where did you put the UTH's? Is it inside each section with the substrate over it or did you attach it to the underside of the bottom shelf (which would be the top or ceiling of the leo home underneith)? I ask cause sticking a UTH to wood worries me

Thanks

I built a similar set up but have sliding doors on the front of each section. For the UTH, I had a piece of glass cut to the same size as the bottom of the wood shelf. Stuck the UTH on the glass and then elevated the glass from the wood shelf by building a frame (with some scrap wood) around the edge of the wood shelf (bottom). So the order would be wood shelf, frame, glass.

Creating a false floor........cool.......you read my mind...... i was wondering about just that but it came to me just as i posted the message LOL. Great stuff. Now all i have to do is figure out how to fit another unit in here... It would save so much room to have that type of set up but currently i have to much in my room (computer desk, tv unit, bed......maybe i'll get rid of the bed LMAO). Hmmmmmmmmm

Thankyou for helping me out

Build a loft bed and then you have plenty of space underneath it for reptile set ups!

I have the UTH's on the shelf with the substrate over the top of it. I did plenty of testing before I introduced the geckos though...I've got them hooked up to rheostats and timers and haven't had any trouble at all.
