the type of light given off by a flood lamp (guessing ur talking about a halogen bulb) is the same type given by all bulbs, which is light. The only difference is the spectrum or range of light it contains n releases during its use. MV bulbs do in fact give out a spectrum closer to that of the suns than a regular incandescent and at a much greater range. There are two types of lights warm and cool, warm light is more reddish orange like the ones given off by HPS lights and there is the cool light which gives off more of a blueish/ white color. I am not sure about which type of light is better but i would consider which one best simulates the sun's own spectrum. One thing that halogen lamps do not give out much of is UV. Halogen lamps are great to use for a spot lamp/basking lamp, but not as the only light/heat source around. Hope this helps some, and sorry for the long winded response.
