Rep. Warren Triche, the sponsor of HB783, shocked the Senate Natural Resource Committee by asking for a deferral until June 1 after telling them that he "didn't know anything about the bill and didn't care anything about it". He said that the bill's author, animal activist Pinkney Wood, was absent and Triche didn't want to face by himself about 20 people who showed up in opposition of the bill. PIJAC and the LGCHS are expecting over twice as many people for the the June 1 meeting at the state capitol. It is imperative that we continue to call 225-342-2040, the LA state capitol swithcboard and speak to Senators Malone, Barham, Dupre, Romero, McPherson, Michot, Nick Gautreaux and Butch Gautreaux [pronounced "go tro"]and ask them to oppose HB783 which would require all non-indigenous constrictors to be permitted. The bill's author wants no new permits issued. The herpers of Louisiana thank you for your help.
