HELP!!!!! What do I do???

IMAT May 26, 2006 06:13 PM

Okay, My flapneck chameleon is gravid and has started digging!!! I put an egglaying box in there. Here is the problem. She keeps trying to dig under the box not in the box! I know you shouldn't disburb them. I did once and put her in the box to show her that she could did there. She just left it and went back up on the plant. I have left her alone since, but I am concerned. Is there anything I can do?

meaning can she see the sand/mix thru the sides? If so, I would use an opaque container. Might need to be bigger as well. Have you seen this article?

I had this happen. I had to remove her, and put her in a garbage can with 24" inches of substrate. Beleive me, she will not learn and this behaviour will continue.

was yours a clear container - was that the issue or was she just being stubborn. The article I linked talked about the garbage can method - seems to really work for a lot of keepers.

It was a semi-transparent black rubbermaid. As good as opaque. She would climb to into the soil go to the side of the bucket and leap off the side and crawl beneath the bucket.

yeah my plastic container was a solid color. She was just being super stubborn. I may have to try the trash cash method. I will give her another day. I switch the container and did some extra stuff in her cage, so we will see if it helps. But if she hasn't layed them by tommorrow I will definately do the trash can method. Thanks for all your help.
