Feeding Habits of Gravid Box Turtles

twilightfade212 May 26, 2006 09:07 PM

I was wondering how long before and after the female box turtle lays her eggs that she stops/starts eating. I have a gravid turtle right now, who'll go after earth and meal worms but won't touch mixed veggies/fruits or even commerical box turtle food. Thanks for your help in advance.

I have several adult females that lay eggs every year: their eating habits vary from one individual to the next.
Some lose interest in eating 2-3 days prior to nesting, others will eat in the morning and lay eggs that evening.
Following egg laying, some will eat alot the next day, others just seem more inclined to take it easy.
I have never noticed any of them shun only certain foods prior to egg laying: all of them, male and female, go through phases with food preferences, which I suspect is more a function of timing than anything else.
