kurma Jul 31, 2003 01:25 PM

OK I was just think of something since I went to www.blizzardlizard.com, I wanted to TRY and produce blazing blizzards from breeding my male tang albino to my tw female blizzards and breeding the DH together. Anyways I don't think my albinos pupil is red he always has it super closed so I haven;t really noces but the rest of his his is like a hazel nut color. Does mean I have no chance a getting blazing, and if not then what could it get?

Albinos do have red pigmented eyes but the pigmentation varies from gecko to gecko and many people do not realize it. Blizzard seems to bring out the red coloration so you still have a chance.

Yup, the reason your gecko's eyes looks hazel instead of red is that gecko eyes have more than melanin for coloring. Melanin is the only color of the three that are in leos that is repressed. The others come through so if they are present in the eye you will see them.

no one has mentioned this yet, but the red in the geckos eye doesnt really matter, because the pupil is really red. at night take your gecko in a dimly lite room and hold it up to the light, kinda like candling an egg. the eyes should be bright red, when light passes through them, because the pupil will be its biggest. the reason i think its not full read eyes like rats, is rats normally have a fully black eye any way, i suspect thats the pupil.

Every Albino's pupil is red, but the rest of the eye can vary from a grey tone to red. Most Tremper Albinos have a pink eye with wavy red eyes. The Vegas albinos have mostly more of a grey to kind of pink eye, then the Bell albino almost always has bright pink eyes, and this strain with the most red eyed albinos. A grey eyed albino can produce a red eyed albino just as a red eyed albino can produce grey eyed albinos. Red eyes I believe is not a genitic trait, it just pops up randomly, sometimes more common in different strains. This making the true red eyed "Blazing Blizzard" even more difficult then just producing an albino blizzard.

Your more then likly going to produce mostly normals with a few albinos and blizzards, all of them 66% het for what ever morph is not expressed. Producing a Blazing Blizzard I believe to be upwards of 1:1000, and then you have an even smaller chance of those being red eyed.

so your saying I can get a blizzard without red or blue eyes? why is a blizzard all blue but albino have a few different colors?

iluvblackfrancis Jul 31, 2003 03:18 PM

the blizzards eyes arn't all blue, they have just as much variation as any gecko. its just not as noticable because they are so dark. the albino is super noticable because it is so light.

I don't think it's possible to get an albino blizzard without red eyes. not only do all albinos have some degree of red eyes but the lack of other pigments in blizzards brings out the red eyes. If you have a white gecko without red eyes it is a blizzard 66% het for albino not an albino blizzard (blazing blizzard).

When I said a Blazing Blizzard without red eyes, I meant it had pink or grey eyes, you will always be able to tell its an albino because of the red pupil.

Even the irises have some red it is hard to see but if you don't believe me you can take a picture of an albinos eyes paste the picture on a workshop such as Dell image expert or Paintshop pro and break down the colors to see the red pigment.
