A Question for those who use Hovabators

ArctikPro May 27, 2006 01:11 PM

Do most of you use the regular hovabator or the one with the built in fan? Im just asking because I was wondering if the fan made a big of difference during incubation. I know its used for air circulation, But Ive also heard that it can dry out the eggs. Thanks...

Last year I made a homemade incubator, and it worked great. This year, I bought the regular ovabator. I just put my eggs in it, so I'm not sure how good it is, but people swear by them. It has air circulation also. They have small hole around the bottom edges that bring air in from the bottom and takes it out some holes in the top. I had it on for 2 weeks prior to getting eggs, and it kept the temps nice and even. I also got the regular one because of the price. It is actually a poultry incubator converted to be a reptile incubator. They put a plastic tray in the bottom for humidity. How many eggs do you hatch out. Right now, I have eleven eggs in it, but it will hold a alot more. Derek

I have a pair of Black Milksnakes that I bought a few months ago. I decided not to breed them this year, but instead the next year. I once used a homemade incubator (the fish tank and heater one)to hatch out some cornsnake eggs and it work very well, but I was looking to use something more professional for a clutch of gagaie.

I have always used the regular hovabator incubator and never had a problem. I typically take the top off and check humidity every other day, so I suppose that gives enough air circulation. I'm not sure the fan is necessary. The incubator does a great job keeping constant temps.

Wow! How does she feel about taking her eggs away? She looks very protective of them. Derek
