reptariums good or bad?

snakeman5124 Jul 31, 2003 01:33 PM

i know there was a post earlier about reptariums but i can't find it. basically iw as wondering other than bleaching from heat and chewing crickets is there anything bad about the cages? i don't mind the bleaching and cup feed so unless there are any other bad things about t hem i guess i will get one. also i have a female veiled about 4 inches snout to vent, what size reptarium would be good for her possibly for life? thanks a lot.

There is nothing really bad about these cages. I would use a 100 gallon reptarium for this size.

Some people like them others don't. I find the zipper opening a bit of a pain day in and day out, and find there are design features I prefer to build into my own cages. I also like cages of different larger sizes and with a rigid floor for plant pots. It is harder to set an ultrasonic humidifier on top for example. But, I always keep a couple around for emergency or temp housing. Also I can take a cham to a petsitter in one if needed. It is not a big investment so try one and see if it works for you.

Ooops, I meant to add that they are really convenient for outdoor basking too as you can easily move them to follow sun or shade.

on finding previous posts. If you know either the poster or a word in the topic hit "ctrl f" on your keyboard. This will bring up the "find" dilaog box. Type in the word/name and hit find next. Give it a try - it works in ANY MS Windows application. You can use it on web pages, too!

in my experience, reptariums are hard to see through, the zippers always stick, and they actually block 80% of uv light. all screen cages are a much better alternative. i had a 65 gallon for a baby veiled, and the crix tore through it in 4 weeks. i use all screen cages i got from ebay, 110 with free shipping from whitenile333, that's for a 24x24x48 cage. i still have a reptarium, i use it as a temp cage.
