Hello all,
I read in this forum all the time, but today I think I'll put a question to some of the experienced emmy breeders.
I've had my pair of emmys for almost half a year, they are (as far as I know) CB and were sold to me by the man who had owned them for a couple years, nice guy. They've settled in and between the three of us, the snakes and I, found they way they like the cage, heat, and humidity. As the cage is pretty large, they have lots of ambient areas to go to or away from... and nicely varying humidity (I spray a couple times a day too.)
Well I've started to suspect my female, Jade, to be gravid. She has put on weight, noticeably, but not in an obese way... just more. She doesn't stray far from the lamps rays and sometimes basks extensively under it, while Jaque likes to hang about a foot farther from the rays and seems much more content. Now I've read that a gravid female should (more commonly) reject meals and go without, but she has upped her hunger scale. I open the cage and she whips her head around "Food??" and when she gets her misting goes back to her donut. I feed about every week and a half... so I'm not overfeeding, and the meals are small rats, but they want more ;p I'm curious, I've read they breed nov-jan mostly... so it could be true, but I've not seen copulation or ovulation ( I work like a mad person and am not always home ) but they did spend more time together those months when they first arrived.
So is it possible or unlikely? Is she just a healthy snake, or could she be carrying despite her killer appetite... how huge should she get if she were gravid and nearing birth? This would be her first litter and I imagine it wouldn't be large at all.
A little info from a breeder on how their emmys go about getting and being gravid would be great!
