Is it possible to get a Granite Yellow Belly or would a Granite Yellow Belly automatically be an Ebony?
from what we know of the ebony it was a breeding from a granite type animal to a yellowbelly. The combo of the two traits is what the ebony is. It would be impossible to have the traits that create the ebony on one snake without it being an ebony. I've seen an add that claimed a snake was a granite yellowbelly and when bred to a yellowbelly you would get ebony's and ivories which would be impossible without actually starting with one of them, some people will say anything to make a sell, that's the sad part of this hobby/business.

I was thinking the same thing that you said, but when I saw the ad I thought I would ask the question.
Thanks!
I bred my Yellow Belly to 2 Granites this year and got no Ebony. I did produce an animal that could be a Granite Yellow Belly. If this is so then Breeding a Yellow Belly to a Granite does not make the Ebony, the new morph is the Granite Yellow Belly. The first pic is a normal Y.B. and the next 2 are what could be a Granite Y.B. I can see a color and pattern difference in the two animals. The broken neck stripe is a Granite trait and this is the only Y.B. out of 5 to have a broken neck stripe. Tell me if you they look different. By the way the other 4 Y.B. seem identical to each other.

Could you post a pic of the granite that was used for this YB granite? Or any pics of sibling granites?
Thanks!
The hatchling Granites are in shed. Visit my website, click on projects and the Granite there is the mom to the possible Granite Yellow Belly. I also bred him to a super dark Granite and no Ebony. More Granite pics coming soon. www.coldbloodedaddiction.com
To my knowledge it has only been done ONCE, So I would not say that all Granites X Yellowbellies will produce Ebony's. If I am not mistaken It was only done ONCE and NEVER AGAIN, So in my opinion it was probably a FLUKE. I even heard that the same parents were bred and NO EBONY's. So I guess will have to see where the EBONY ball goes from here. I am currently raising several female Granite balls up for breeding to my yellow bellies but I doubt it will prove out, But I just have to do the breeding just to see for myself. NEXT SEASON should be a good one for me!!! Thanks David

WRONG... The only time I was WRONG is when I thought I was WRONG but I was really RIGHT.....LOL...LOL...LOL
If you notice in my post I stated the ebony was produced from a yb bred to a granite type of snake. I have seen the granite that was used to produce the ebony and it was certainly not the type of granite that you see posted all over the classifieds for sell for $200. Until someone has produced an ebony from their line of granites they should not state it will produce one when bred to a YB.
