how big to breed?

okreptilerescue May 28, 2006 03:08 PM

My husband and I have talked about breeding our RTB's. I have a male that is about 7 ft. and a female that is about 5 ft. the male is much bigger around. How big to the females need to be before you can breed them? I've heard so many different stories. I always thought the female had to be bigger than the male but recently i've been told that the size of the male doesn't matter, just the female's size? whats right and whats wrong? How big does a female have to be?

you were right. the females typically are supposed to be bigger. The age is more important than the size, however, the minimum size I would breed a female boa would be 5'5-6'. Some peoople have had success will smaller, but I wouldnt suggest trying it, for the females health. a 7' male is a very big male to breed to any size female. everybody has their own opinions, but my personal opinion, I wouldn't use him. Get a smaller male. The hemipenes of a 7' male could cause some damage to a smaller female, especially one under 6'. My opinion, if you are serious about breeding, get some size on your female, get her to 6' or so, and maybe late next season try putting a 4.5-5' male in with her, you should do well.

Thats what i figured. I've just never had any thing worth breeding until her. I by no means want to hurt her so I'll just wait for a smaller male. Thank you.
