delicate gravid females??

zach_whitman May 28, 2006 03:26 PM

I have always heard that female kings are delicate when they are heavily gravid and that any rough handling could damage the eggs.

I feel like a wild king has to still be able to get around and defend herself while gravid. Also, they spend their entire lives wedging themselves between the rocks. So how delicate could they realy be.

I only ask because this morning I turned away from an open cage for a second and a VERY heavy female qiuckly slid out of her cage. She was somewhat gracefull but landed with a soft plop about three feet down on a carpeted floor. I'm not worried.

does anyone have anything that would realy suggest any problems with this or is it just an old wives tale.

The eggs don't fully harden up until after they are laid. So inside the female they are pretty much like a rubber ball that doesn't bounce but won't break...
