inside of cottage is done...heat & shelf (though it's 100 degrees now)

hardly any use for the heat lamps, but they're in place,
my husband wanted to get this project completed. I have
the 3 domes on independant switches, and a 4th available,
also have 2 other outlets available. Probably going to
look at using a Kane mat if it gets really cold this winter,
though the floor, walls and ceiling are insulated.
I've finished planting for now, enough grasses and variety
so that stuff will be green most of the time and flowery,
the cactus plant is protected inside a planter or it'd be
a knub as we all know happens to tastey plants. This high
hibiscus trees work, providing flowers (attract lots of
hummingbirds too though they can't be eated to stumps
since they're out of reach. Got some other brushy looking
stuff and grassy looking stuff, trying to get a savannah look
going but I' think I'm too tropical still!

this way the whole screen can be moved for convenient cleaning
or to move the basking area. I was thinking I'd put the ceramic
heater out here in the fall, for nights. BTW the walls are
painted "shimmering sea", or yikes green if you will!
I'm keeping a supply of paper towels, and trash bags out
here too, of course we're not using the heat now.

Teddy's bonked out inside for the midday heat, though there's
shade outside. He comes out around 4 looking for grass, we're
down to maybe 1 feeding a week of mazuri and I'm pretty much
only offering collards as a supplemental green since they're
not his super favorites his eats some but then moves on to the
grasses. But the other lettuces are running $2.50 each right
now ! and he wastes too much so we're just going to have collards
if anything right now.

my 45 pound male sulcata, proud owner of this establishment,
who has all (except for a mailbox and I suppose that's next)

He's turned into Mr. Eat Grass, and isn't very interested in
Mazuri (since I've been feeding it to him outside and it's much
more interesting to run around the rest of the yard when outside)
or greens (since he's getting collards mostly!).

Yes, we've been going on some occasional evening walks/strolls
and yes it's very embarassing as everybody continues to stop and
ask questions.

this was our initial set up when we got here, at the old house
he was in a corner by the fence blocked with wood and living
under half logs, some pics are on his old site which we haven't
updated so you could see a lot of baby pictures of Teddy.

Are you planning for this to be his permanent house now? I assume you can expand the pen by adding panels (at least that's how it looks). Teddy must be one happy tort!

My husband thinks it's hilarious that we built such a big pen for such a little thing, but I already have plans for a bigger one when we move to a property with more land (hubby gets a shop, I get a tortoise pen, lol). Land is very expensive around here, so the tort(s) will be sitting on some prime real estate! For now, I have the pen set up and planted (geraniums, sedums, some native fescues--waiting for weed mix). I finally get to pick up the baby on Aug. 11, after we get back from vacation.

I have always worried about using gravel in my redfoot enclosure but I see you are using it. You find no problems with your tortoises ingesting it? Thanks for your post...Richard

every once in a while he eats a few, especially when it's a new
bag (gotta taste it you know!) but they just pass right through,
as a matter of fact I'm sure he could eat and unload a brick!
