Arizona mt king summer temp questions

Malays May 28, 2006 09:29 PM

Hello
I recently set up my one year old Arizona Mt king in a 30 gallon long tank . Lots room and nicelt decorated with driftwood, etc .
The tank looks great and wanted to keep it in den however I only use ac when I am home and the air temp from June to late Sept can range from mid 70s to high 80s (during day only).
I also have a cooler basement thats well lit and temp gets to mid 70s max. I am thinking best to keep in basement with UTH .
Any input experinces with summer temps, etc ?

thanks

I have a Sierra Mountain King which I've kept in my living room for five years this September. She has thrived. I would say the temp varies from the 70's to 80 at the most, and she has never had a problem. She can go several weeks during the Winter without eating, this made me nervous at first because the room temp did not seem to vary much, but she would eventually shed and turn into her normal ferocious self.

I've had Arizona Mountain Kings for ten years. Your temps in your upstairs living area should be fine.

However to breed them, you will need to expose them to very cool temps for approximately 8-12 weeks with no food or light ( natural hibernation which induces the formation of sperm and egg follicles)....but water must be always available. No food should be in their digestive system when cooling them as it will not digest and cause many problems.

Thanks yes I took Badkoz advice and just left him there. He is doing very well infact had anothe hopper last night (he goes through same routine eats 3 hoppers over 3 to 4 weeks than sheds).
The temps have actually been pretty mild so far this year with temps drop into mid to high 70s at night mid 80s during the day tops.
I had an UTH on one side of tank under a head area but he avoided it completely thus shut it off .
I dont intend to breed him .

thanks
