a few HL's from this year...........

Ryan-reptilian May 29, 2006 02:40 AM

So this is in response to the thread "a dead forum" below. The forum may be dead but the animals are out in full force where I'm from. Most of my time herping so far this year has come by way of road cruising at night for snakes but I have managed to get out about a dozen or so times hiking during the day. Even though most of my hiking time is spent flipping through rocks on steep rocky hillsides (not necessarily ideal HL habitat) I have managed to find a few gems. Hope you enjoy these pics.

I'm in Yucaipa.(San Bernardino county) I've been hiking in the hills around here and seeing alot of HLs of all sizes, mostly from 7 to 10am. I saw two adults this morning within 10 minutes of starting my hike.

Yucaipa is around 10 miles from Redlands. I have only found CHLs. And alot of rattlesnakes.

You know I see alot of Southern Pacific Rattle Snakes just laying on the roads in the areas that I find the CHL's in also and in one of the spots we also see Striped Racers. That's cool you have a nice area there.

I held back some when I wrote the "dead forum" post.Glad I did if it sparked this type of comeback. Thanks for the picts, absolutely awsome stuff and clear picts to boot.Must be a really nice experience to cruise the desert and see the views there. Michigans nice, the seasons and all, but some of those type of "wild" areas that are different to most still intrige me.Oh yea , and it's nice to come here and see a "new" post.thanks, scott
