I purchased a garter that was supposed to be a red phase elegans terrestris. In appearance it does look like one.But the scales don't add up.It has 7 supralabials and 19 dorsal scales.I know that in the garter bible it says usually 8 supralabials.Anyone ever see an elegans with 7?I wish I had a pic.My camera is broke.I thought it might be a red side but the apperance is off.It has perfect alternating black spots like an elegans is supposed to have.

Not an expert, and I don't know which book is the garter bible, but the book I have here says this about elegans:

"Dorsal scales usually in a maximum of 19 to 21 rows; supralabials usually 8 (occasionally 7)"
