I've seen pictures of corns swimming and wondered if this is a common activity for them? Is it recommended occassionally, as a sort of 'treat' or just as more exercise?

the only time i let my snakes swim is 1 if they are stinky b/c of rolling in poop or 2 having problems shedding... the shedding helps put moisture between the skins and will cause the old skin to just slip off!!

Thanks. Just wanted to check out if it's ok for them. Don't wanna stress him more than necessary but I though it might be good stimulation.
I used to keep ball pythons which rather enjoyed the occasional swim in the bathtub. For short stubby landlubbers they were quite adept.
It did help with shedding, and also seemed to make them wanna poop. I don't see any reason why a corn couldn't get the same benefit from the ocasional swim.
Some words of caution:
Always check the water temp - anything over 90 F will make the snake uncomfortable and can be dangerous or even fatal if they can't get out. If you don't have a thermometer, get the temp so it just feels cool to the skin on the inside of your wrist.
Never, ever, leave the snake unsupervised!
Always make sure there are no holes he or she can get into!
(This includes that little secret hole under the top lip of the sink) Believe me - they will find them.
Be prepared to deal with poop - a disposable plastic cup is good.
Experiment with water depth - some snakes like to dive while others may prefer shallow water.
So be a Pal - take your snake swimming today!

Brilliant. I'm quite looking forward to his bath now, even if he isn't hehe. I've never seen him soak in his water bowl but maybe he's holding out for a swim!
Make sure you rinse the tub out REALLY well first. There are all kinds of chemical residue in there!

Yea I imagine ball pythons dont go near water in the wild to much unlike corns that are found in areas like Everglades with water.
Well Snail had his first swim today, and was a natural! About two minutes into it he relaxed so much he pooed in the tub. He seemed to really enjoy it until I tried to lift him out and he flipped, was wriggling about so much I had to put him back in!
Could be a very handy way of getting him to poop somewhere easier to clean than his tank so could become a weekly thing
I also only get Deuce wet when he got poopy. I've seen him in his water dish only one time.
Usually, he gets freaked out when I get him wet, so no swimming for him, thank you!
He is a snow corn, maybe he is more temperature sensitive or something. I have to be careful if I take him out, he can get a sunburn!
Also, he is verrrry ticklish after he sheds, and likes to feel different textures, cloth and velvet and stuff...
If the humidity is low, I put a damp cloth over the mesh screen. He's only had one yucky shed in over 8 years, so it must be ok!

wow thats going well. snail has always been brilliant at shedding, its always come off as a whole piece apart from the last time, it broke in the middle and came as two bits. the bigger they get, is it harder for it to come off as one piece?
i took him out sunbathing with me the other day and he loved it so he seems to be easy to please
