First Batch of Baby Boas...

mikdundee May 29, 2006 11:56 AM

Our first batch of baby boas was just born 12 days ago.. There were 21 total with not a single slug. All but 3 of them have shed so we offered all of those babies that shed a newborn rat pinkie.. Two of them ate the baby rats and the others struck at it and moved away from it.. Is there a way I can 'train' these babies to eat or should I just keep trying to offer them food? They have become very 'sassy'. When we removed them from their mom they were very mellow and didn't strike at us at all. Now when we open their containers they strike at everyting that comes near them. We are guessing that this is because they are hungry and unsure of us moving around them.

Any suggestions or ideas are welcome...

Thank you very much,

Michael and Kim Nodine

Baby boas tend to be snappy, they are new and instinct tells them to defend/protect themselves. I wouldn't worry about the ones not taking food yet, some take a few tries before coming around. My slowest eater from my 3-29 litter didn't eat for almost a month but now eats each and every time.
