Mucous

Craig W May 29, 2006 12:49 PM

Hello,
I just spot cleaned my boa's cage, and had to handle her to do it. She had alot of mucous coming out of her mouth, which petrified me. Yesterday, she ate a large rat, and today I saw urates in her cage. Usually, I don't handle her so soon after a meal, especially a large meal. However, I didn't want her wallowing in her own urates and feces. Could the mucous be from stress and possible regurgitation of the rat? I'm calling a vet right after I post this. This is my first problem with her, or any reptile, ever, and I'm scared.

If she just had a drink, it could be some of the water coming back up... happens when handled after a drink, and it does seem to be pure mucous...

on the other hand, if not after a drink, and you see the mucous, and maybe also bubbling at the nose, and wheezing sounds, she may have a cold... respiratory infection... RI.

In that case, schedule that vet appointment, keep her cage clean, a little extra warm, with clean water, and keep her away from other snakes.

Best wishes.. Joe
