heating an outdoor tortoise cottage...lamps on sliding track...

Niki Jul 31, 2003 02:39 PM

caught my tort napping indoors in the midday heat (it's 100
degrees here so the lamps aren't on), but this is set up for
in the fall/winter. Each dome has a seperate switch of a
four switch set (still have one available for a ceramic heater)
and also there are two other outlets available for additional
heat such as a kane heat mat. Again, now it's summer so no
lights are in use (other than the overhead light or motion
sensitive outdoor lights). This house has a shelf running
across the top for cleaning supplies (paper towels and trash
bags and plastic spoons which I use to clean up outside, disposable).

The lamps and screen set can slide on the track to move them for
cleaning or change the basking area.

shows interior, mind you this is built like a residential
house and has insulated floor, walls and ceiling.

Interior 2 feet high and floor are white melamine.

preparing to go in through the window, "because he can".
In thunderstorms so far, it's worked having the door (steel)
shut and the window top part just slightly open, no rain
inside. At night I just leave it cracked at the top also,
and shut the bottom and door.
This is my 45 pound sulcata male tortoise, my only pet (except
for 4 tarantulas but they're easy), and spoiled pain in the
everywhere! lol!

That's the nicest, neighborhood-friendly setup I've ever seen. I wish I had it.

Regards,

Bill

Nice to see somebody doing the right thing for spur-thighs and making it look clean and attractive so as not to add to the long list of "dirty" words applied to herpers. good for you!
