Why am I not finding any racers!?!

coluberking25 May 29, 2006 02:59 PM

So this morning I checked out this HUGE open field looking for racers. This field is HUGE and has many piles of sticks and junk near the edges of the woods that surround it. Well I searched from 10-12 this morning, and came up snake-less! Not even a sign of any kinda of snake in the area. I'll post pics soon to give you guys an idea of what it looks like. Think I just got skunked?

PS-I did find a snapper, some treefrogs, and even a fox though, so it wasnt that bad.

If it is 70F a Tin can be 145F if sun is on it. The trick is to flip early morning before the sun is up. The racers will be under them waiting for them to heat up. I flipped three gravid females a few days ago.

All the tin I found i couldnt even flip because it got well into the ground. I was trying walking in the field to see if they were even out in the open, but no luck. However the good news is I found oodles of frogs and a farm is nearby. As we all know, farm=rodents and rodents frogs=racer's delight.

To put it simple.....when you target a snake to find..you don't find it. It finds you ! LOL !
