Plants in Iguana Cage??

lizardlover21 Jul 31, 2003 02:44 PM

I'm trying to think of a nice set up for my iguana and was thinking maybe i'll put some plants in there. I know that the plants should be big and strong enough to support her, but I was wondering what kind of plants are safe to put in the cage?? Just in case she eats them i don't want anything happening to her.
Thanks for your help

Double check first, but some basic plants that I have had success with in various cages are: anything in the Ficus (Weeping Fig, etc. also a very picky plant. One wrong look and they drop all their leaves.) or Dracena (there are not too many common names for these and the common names are similar to poisonous plans. rely on the latin. These are much easier to grow. they are easy for beginners, can withstand some drafts, and don't have the same light requirements as the ficus.)family and spider plants. Spider plants unfortuately must be quite tasty so I have serveral of them including a "mother plant". I have to rotate them periodically or they get mowed down to nothing. I would imagine that fruit trees would also work, but have never tried them. They would be difficult to grow indoors and would grow too quickly for most enclosures. Check with your vet or another knowledgable herp person first.
