Borneo groth rates, first and seccond yr

Victor Freeman May 29, 2006 05:11 PM

It has been a long ass time since ive posted in any of these forums, but i finally have reason to.

Ive come to the point where i cant stand the living off the nostalgia of working with some large blood pyhtons a few years ago any longer. Now that ive sold all my old breeding collection of snakes Im in the market for a blood python of my own.

Ive got osme questions that can only bbe answered by people who have reared their own bloods b4 things i cant look up reliably.

IM wondering what the growth rates are like in the first 2-3 years with regular appropriate feeding.

do they spurt up fast in the first year? whats the average length and girth at a year old, 2 years old?

Of course with any snake there is quite a bit of variability with growth rates. This will be dependent on the sex of the animal and the feeding regiment followed. Unlike other snakes, I do not recommend "power feeding" these guys at all. Their metabolism is based on few meals conserved internally for longer periods of time. The following are weights for some animals (Python breitensteini) I raised up over the years from hatchling stage to 1yr, 2yr and 3yrs:

Animal 1yr 2yr 3yr
1 800g 2420g 7337g
2 820g 1760g 6050g
3 635g na na
4 770g 1400g 4020g
5 874g 1750g 4900g
